School of Agriculture and Biotechnology - Admission Requirements

Undergraduate Programmes

  1. All applicants for the undergraduate degree programmes must satisfy the minimum entrance requirements stipulated in the common University entrance regulations as specified by Joint Admissions Board (JAB).
  2. Applicants with a mean grade of C+ and have fulfilled the following subject clusters are eligible for admission as Privately Sponsored Students (PSSP):
    Maths or Physics C    
    Biology B- OR Biological Sciences B-
    Chemistry C+   Physical sciences C+
    Any group 4 subject C+   Any group 4 subject C+
  3. Holders of a recognized Diploma from a government institution are eligible for admission to different programmes, as follows: Higher National Diploma, (3rd year), Distinction and Credit diploma (2nd year), Pass Diploma (1st year).
  4. Students can also transfer from different programmes within the department on meeting the stipulated requirements.

M.Phil Programmes

  1. The common regulations for eligibility for registration in M.Phil. degrees of Moi University shall apply.
  2. In addition to the University requirements, applicants for the M.Phil. Programmes should have at least a B.Sc. 2nd Class Honours (Upper Division) or its equivalent in agriculture, or other related disciplines, from recognized universities.
  3. Holders of B.Sc. Second Class Honours (Lower Division) degree of Moi University, or of a recognized university, who in addition to this have relevant post-graduate diploma or research experience as evidenced by at least one published paper in a refereed journal, or one published paper in a workshop proceeding per year; or three years relevant experience will be considered for admission.
  4. Prospective candidates may be required to appear for an interview in order to establish their suitability for the programmes.

D.Phil Programmes

  1. The common regulations for the D.Phil. degree of Moi University shall apply.
  2. In addition to the Moi University requirements, applicants for the D.Phil. programme shall be holders of a Masters degree in the respective programmes or its equivalent or closely related disciplines from universities or institutions recognized by Moi University Senate.
  3. Applicants will also be required to submit a research concept on their proposed topics.
