Textiles and Apparel serve the basic needs of humans by predominantly providing clothing and also play a major role in creating employment. Currently on a global scale, textiles and apparel production is the largest source of industrial employment both in developed and developing countries. Apparel manufacture is characterized by relatively simple technology and high degree of labour intensity, requiring skilled personnel in areas of design, fabric selection, marker and cutting room, sewing room, quality control, marketing and dispatch.
- To produce competent professional designers, production managers and marketing managers for the textile and apparel industry.
- To train students for self-employment as design consultants, apparel designers and fashion merchandisers.
- To prepare students for research and further studies in apparel design and technology.
The program is composed of course work, practices and Industrial attachment. The coursework is designed such that it contains the relevant interdisciplinary courses in basic sciences as well as the foundation and in depth courses in Apparel and Fashion Design. The Industrial attachment is ninety (90) days long.
