Horticulture is one of the leading foreign exchange earner in this country. The M.Phil. in Horticulture programme emphasizes in-depth knowledge required for production, processing and marketing of flowers, fruits and vegetables. The programme is therefore designed to enable students to acquire the technical skills needed in promoting the horticultural industry.
The graduates of the programme will have competence to enable them fulfill the following specific objectives:
- Carry out research and extension work in horticultural science.
- Manage business enterprises in any of horticulture branches including Floriculture, Olericulture, Pomology Landscape and Ornamental Horticulture.
- Pursue careers in commercial horticulture (agribusiness), horticulture industry and teaching in institutions of higher learning.
- Implementation of horticultural programmes as advisors administrators or specialists.
The programme shall normally be by course work, examination and thesis. There shall be at least one supervisor from Moi University for each student. External supervision may be required for students conducting research outside the campus with independent organizations, on approval by Moi University Senate.
