| Department of Seed, Crop and Horticulture Sciences - Master of Philosophy in Plant Protection |
Crop damage and losses caused by insect pests, diseases and weeds contributes to the decline of crop yields especially in smallholder farms. Thus it becomes imperative that the country needs well-trained manpower in the area of plant protection, which can articulate and address issues of crop pests and diseases within the country and elsewhere.
It is expected that graduates from the programme would have competence that will enable them fulfill the following specific objectives:
- Carry out research in Plant Protection.
- Make use of the acquired knowledge and practical skills for further postgraduate studies.
- Successfully run private businesses in Plant Protection.
- Participate in the implementation of Plant Protection programmes as advisors,
administrators, extension specialists or trainers.
The programme shall normally be by course work, examination and thesis. There shall be at least one supervisor from Moi University for each student. External supervision may be required for students conducting research outside the campus with independent organizations, on approval by Moi University Senate.
