Department of Seed, Crop and Horticulture Sciences - Master of Philosophy in Seed Science and Technology

Introduction

Successful agricultural systems depend on high quality inputs. Seed constitutes one of the most important inputs in agricultural production systems and it is first in the food security chain. The M.Phil. degree programme in Seed Science and Technology will produce trained manpower capable of providing quality seed through research and training.

Objectives

It is expected that graduates of this programme will be able to;

  • To carry out research in Seed Science and Technology.
  • To make use of the acquired knowledge and practical skills for further postgraduate studies.
  • To successfully run private businesses in Seed Science and Technology.
  • To participate in the implementation of Seed Science and Technology programmes as advisors, administrators, extension specialists or trainers.

Design of the Programme

The programme shall normally be by course work, examination and thesis. There shall be at least one supervisor from Moi University for each student. External supervision may be required for students conducting research outside the campus with independent organizations, on approval by Moi University Senate.
