General Objective

 

The degree programme aims at delivering high quality training that will be more pertinent and appropriate to policy formulation, implementation and management of the economy. The programme intends to maximize both quality and relevance and will include a high level of theory grounded in African empirical realities

 

Specific Objectives


Specifically, the programme is intended to meet the following objectives.

  1. To train economists in advanced theory and methods, mainly for policy analysis, simulation and economic management: not only within governments, but also for employment in the private sector and Universities.
  2. To provide the foundation for those who can subsequently undertake more advanced study at the doctoral level, mainly for employment in Universities and research institutes.
Admission Requirements


The Moi University common regulations for registration into a Master’s degree programme shall normally apply.

The following shall be eligible for admission into the M.phil degree programme in the department of Economics and Agricultural Resource Management.

  1. Holders of at least a lower second class degree of Moi University or of a recognized University and should be a major in Economics, Agricultural Economics or any other relevant Economics related undergraduate degree.
  2. Applicants may be required to appear for interview in order to establish their suitability for the degree programme.



Submission and Processing of Applications


The common procedure approved by the University shall apply.


Conduct of Studies and Student Supervision


Students undertaking the degree programme will be required to pursue their studies under the guidance of an identified academic staff. The training programme will follow a module structure of teaching. Throughout their duration of study, students will be required to work closely with their academic supervisors. The students will be expected to give a seminar presentation on their research proposal, at departmental level, during the second semester of their registration.
