MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN

The School of Engineering was began as one of the pioneer faculties of Moi University. The change of name from Faculty of Technology to School of Engineering (SoE) was a result of the general restructuring of the university and in line with the new strategic plan of Moi University.

The vision of School of Engineering is to be recognized internationally as a center of excellence in Engineering and the mission is to endeavour to build engineering capacity for national development and wealth creation through training of highly skilled manpower in engineering, research, consultancy and extension services.

The School has seven undergraduate Engineering programmes which include Civil & Structural, Mechanical & Production, Chemical & Process, Electrical & Communications, Computer, Agricultural & Biosystems and Textile Engineering. There is also a number of postgraduate Master of Philosophy programmes with various options in the departments of Civil & Structural Engineering and Mechanical & Production Engineering. The undergraduate programmes runs for five years while full time postgraduate programmes runs for two years.

For the undergraduate programmes both government and privately sponsored students are integrated. All programmes have compulsory practical works which consists of six months industrial attachment and three months workshop practice. These activities contributes a lot in preparing our graduates to fit in a real working environment.

Apart from the training programmes, the School is involved in research, consultancy and extension works. These activities are carried out at the university and some in collaboration with other organisations and institutions nationally and internationally.

The School has well trained academic and support staff which makes it possible to carry out its activities more effectively and efficiently. About 50% of the academic staff have Ph.Ds. The School is committed to continous professional and academic training of its staff to cope up with the dynamic engineering skills and education for development.

The School plans to develop post graduate programmes in all areas of specialization in engineering and have a stabilized student population with adequate training facilities and staff. We are also planning to expand our research and consultancy activities which will involve all the academic staff and students.

Through the dedication of School staff and students we have well organised and coordinated School activities. The School is always ready to offer its best to those students joining our programmes. We also look forward to good working partnership and productive work with other organisations, industries and institutions in research consultancy and extensions services in providing engineering solutions to the community and the world at large.
