Engineering Students at a Workshop Practice

INTRODUCTION

The School of Engineering was founded in 1986 as one of the pioneer faculties of Moi University. The School started off with two departments: Electrical & Communications Technology, and Production Technology. In 1991, four more departments were introduced, namely: Civil and Structural Engineering; Chemical and Process Engineering; Textile Engineering; Computer and Instrumentation Centre. Currently there are five departments in the School with seven undergraduate academic programmes.

All our engineering programs have Integrated Privately Sponsored student Programs (PSSP) with the Government Sponsored Students(GSSP). This gives consistency in student evaluation and offers equal opportunities in the training process for all the students in our School hence ensuring high quality of training. The School programs consist of coursework, laboratories, workshops, projects, field attachments and industrial visits.

The School has several well equipped laboratories. These include a modern, fully equipped Water Resources Engineering laboratory and four modern computing laboratories which are adequate for undergraduate teaching. The School also has foundry furnace and other heat treatment facilities. The university has also constructed an ultra modern motor vehicle repair workshop that is also used by the students from the School.

To make the School of Engineering be recognised internationally as a centre of excellence in Engineering.

MISSION

To endeavour to build engineering capacity for national development and wealth creation through training of highly skilled manpower in engineering, research, consultancy and extension services.
