DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN FORESTRY
INTRODUCTION
The Doctor of Philosophy degree in forestry is intended to enable candidates to develop the highest level of scholarship, research and creative thinking in the areas of tropical silviculture and forest ecosystem management, forest health and protection, forest economics and management, agroforestry and biodiversity conservation. The program prepares candidates for challenging careers in research, teaching, the public sector and industry. The program requires prior grounding in the science and practice of forestry, and in the principles and methods of scientific inquiry.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the Doctor of Philosophy in forestry are: ▪ to provide candidates with the competence to undertake independent research in tropical silviculutre and forest ecosystem management, forest health and protection, forest economics and management, agroforestry and biodiversity conservation; ▪ to produce high level manpower that can analyze forestry issues, conservation policies and manage forestry development programs.
