DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN FISHERIES

 

Introduction

 

The Doctor of Philosophy (D.Phil) degree programme in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences is focused on training fisheries managers, researchers and experts to manage fisheries and aquatic resources to increase food security; alleviate poverty among the fisher folk and foster sustainable development. The programme will address opportunities and constraints of fisheries resources conservation and management, aquaculture, product development and marketing. The programme prepares candidates for challenging careers in scientific research, university teaching, industry and public service.

 

Specific Objectives

 

·       To produce high level manpower with practical and theoretical knowledge, skills and attitudes in research and fisheries resources management

·        To prepare graduates who are competent in analyzing fisheries issues, conservation policies and manage aquatic resources development programs.
