MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY IN WOOD SCIENCE AND INDUSTRIAL PROCESSING

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

 

The following shall be eligible for admission into the M.Phil Programme in Wood Science  & Technology in accordance with Moi University Regulations for M. Phil Programme:

 

  1. Holder of a First Class or Upper Second Class Honors degree of Moi University in WSc. & Tech.

  2. Holder of a First Degree in WSc. & Tech. from an accredited University Accepted as being equivalent to a First Class or Upper Second Class Honors WSc. & Tech. degree of Moi University.

  3. Holder of a First Class or Upper Second Class Honors degree in a field  Closely related to WSc. & Tech. (e.g. Forestry, Civil Engineering), and approved by Senate as being adequate qualification for joining the programme.

  4. Holders of a Lower Second Class degree of Moi University, or of a recognized University in WSc. & Tech. who in addition to the degree, have a Post-Graduate qualification (Certificate or Diploma), or have postgraduate research experience as evidenced by at least one published paper in a refereed journal.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

 

In addition to satisfying Admission Requirements above, applicants may be required to pass an interview conducted by the Departmental Graduate Studies Committee.

 

COURSE STRUCTURE AND DURATION

 

Structure

The M. Phil Degree Programme shall be by Course Work, Examination and Thesis spread over four Semesters for Full Time Study, or over a maximum period of four years for Part time attendance.  The Department shall work out the modalities for part-time study when the situation arises.

 

The Minimum Course Units shall be 45 Units including 18 Units of Research distributed over four Semesters for Full Time attendance.  All students will be required to take the prescribed number of Core Courses, Required Courses and Elective Courses, as defined in the Programme.

 

Duration of the Programme

The Course Duration shall normally be two years of four Semesters for Full Time attendance, and a maximum of four years of attendance for Part-Time attendance from the date of registration, in accordance with Moi University Regulations for Full Time and Part-time
