BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT

 

Course distribution

 

Courses will comprise of either 2 or 3 units. This is equivalent to 2 or 3 lecture hours per week or their equivalent in tutorials, practicals or demonstrations during the semester. All courses up to the third year of study are compulsory except in the case of HND or Advanced Diploma holders who will get the due credit. Only core courses are mandatory in the fourth year. However, students must take a minimum of 6 units of elective courses in each of the semesters during the fourth year.

Examination regulations

The common university semester examination regulations shall apply.

Admission to examination will depend on satisfactory attendance of the prescribed courses as per senate regulations.

 

All courses shall be examined by continuous assessment (tests, term papers, laboratory and field trip reports, seminar presentations) and semester university examinations except for the field courses WLM 112: Outward Bound Training and WLM 370: Field Attachment and WLM 458: Senior Project.

 

Whereas continuous assessment will vary from course to course depending on the nature of each course, the end of semester examinations will be of 3 hours duration.

WLM 112: Outward Bound Training will be assessed by the participation and performance of the student on assigned duties in the field. WLM: Field Attachment will be assessed from the student’s written report (50 %), Field Supervisor’s written report (30 %) and performance of assigned duties while in the field (20 %). The Senior Project (WLM 458) will be assessed  solely on the written report of the student with marks distributed as follows: Abstract (5%), Literature review (10 %), Data collection and result analysis (30 %), Discussion and management recommendations (20 %), Oral presentation (15 %).

 

 

A student will not graduate unless he/she satisfactorily completes the field  courses WLM 112: Outward Bound Training, WLM 370: Field Attachment and WLM
