BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT IntroductionWildlife conservation and management is a multi-disciplinary field. It draws knowledge, information and techniques from both the sciences and arts. The activities derived from wildlife conservation and management have biological, social, economic and political facets. There is therefore need for the sound stewardship of our natural resources to sustainably meet our current needs and for posterity. The B. Sc. in Wildlife Management aims at producing broadly trained, but highly focussed personnel in the sciences, planning, management and administration. Graduates with this diversity of training will be expected to take up positions in a cross-section of careers in wildlife conservation and management, wildlife research, education and extension, secondary and post-secondary teaching, management and administration, in accountancy, banking and insurance and with the military. ObjectivesThe B. Sc. in Wildlife Management is therefore tailored to meet the following objectives: General ObjectivesTo provide students with appropriate knowledge in wildlife biologyfor participating and/or advising in all matters of wildlife conservation and management. Specific Objectives1. To equip students with knowledge and skills in bushmanship and survival techniques. 2. To provide knowledge and skills in the management of wildlife enterprises in order to promote entrepreneurship. 3. To provide knowledge and skills to conduct wildlife research, extension and pursue postgraduate studies. 4. To interpret and apply wildlife policies and law for the management, conservation and utilization of wildlife and related natural resources for community development. 5. To enable students to work in any other field where their diverse knowledge is applicable.
