School of Science Students in a Lab

INTRODUCTION

The establishment of the School of Environmental Studies at Moi University was a part of the declared national policy towards preparation for the rational management of natural resources and the environment for sustainable development in Kenya. To that effect, the concept of the School was built into the Report of the Presidential Working Party on the Second University in Kenya, issued in September 1981. The Working Party took note of the "increasing emphasis being laid on Environmental management in the country..." which, unfortunately, had ".....not received sufficient intellectual and scholarly backing".

The school comprises the following departments: Biological Sciences, Mathematics and Computer Science, Chemistry and Biochemistry, and Physics. The school has a population of about one thousand two hundred (1200) undergraduate students and eighty (80) postgraduate students and academic staff of over ninety

The Dean of the School is the Administrative and Academic Head of the School and is assisted by the Heads of the Departments who are the Administrative and academics heads of the departments.

In day-to-day administrative matters of the office two Administrative Officers and a School Accountant assist the Dean.
