M.Phil. Degree Programme

  • The common regulations for the Master of Philosophy Programme of Moi University shall be applicable.
  • Following shall be eligible for admission for the M.Phil degree programme in the School of Environmental Studies:
    1. Holders of a First Class or Upper Second Class degree of Moi University in any of the following disciplines: Life/health sciences, engineering, physical sciences, law, social sciences, humanities, and allied disciplines.
    2. A candidate who has obtained a first degree from a recognized university which the Senate has accepted as equivalent to First class or Upper Second Class honours degree of Moi University in the disciplines outlined in (b) (i) above.
    3. Holders of a lower second class honours degree of Moi University or of a recognised university, who in addition to the degree, have a postgraduate qualification (certificate or diploma) in a relevant field; or have postgraduate research experience as evidenced by at least one published paper in a refereed journal.

    Preference will be given to first class or upper second-class candidates.
  • In addition to producing evidence of eligibility for registration, candidates for the M.Phil Programme may be required to appear for interview by the School of Environmental Studies to determine their suitability for registration.
  • Subject to the approval of Senate, the School of Environmental Studies may formulate regulations requiring applicants to have attained such other academic or equivalent qualifications as may be consistent with the goals of the M.Phil program.

D.Phil Degree Programme

  1. Common University regulations for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy of Moi University shall apply.
  2. Any candidate for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the School of Environmental Studies must:
    1. be a holder of a Masters degree of Moi University in any of the following disciplines: life science, health sciences, physical sciences, social sciences, law, engineering, humanities, and allied disciplines.
    2. be holder of a Masters degree of any other University recognized by Moi University Senate as equivalent to the status of the qualifications in (i) above; or
    3. be a holder of other qualifications considered by Senate as equivalent to a Masters degree in the disciplines outlined in (i) above.
