The Office of the Chief administrative Officer co-ordinates all matters relating to the following sections: Finance, Council, Personnel, Recruitment and Training, Estates, Transport, Central Services, Catering and Hostels, Farm, Legal, and Health Services for efficient operations. The Chief Administrative Officer is assisted by the heads of these sections in ensuring efficient delivery of services.
Co-ordinates and provides secretarial services to Council and its Committees and in consultation with the Vice Chancellor, the secretariat ensures all Council decisions are implemented promptly as recommended by Council.
The department is responsible for all financial operations such as university budgeting, financial planning and controls, salaries, cash floats, deposits, revenue collections, reconciliation, procurement, financial examinations, and financial planning in guidance of Chief Administrative Officer.
This section deals with personnel and related issues such as human resource, postings, transfers, staff disciplinary matters, staff welfare, benevolent matters, staff records, performance appraisal, medical scheme, etc. in consultation with the Chief Administrative Officer to ensure quality service delivery.
The section oversees recruitment of new staff in all academic and administrative departments. In addition, the section is responsible for facilitating training of staff both locally and internationally and in ensuring that staff on training are regularly contacted to provide their academic progress reports to the University.
The section is charged with the responsibility of ensuring offices, and lecture halls are kept clean. In addition, the section oversees the delivery and collection of mail, telephone services, and ensure that registry services are operational, personnel records are maintained and regularly updated.
The section provides medical services to staff and students on a 24-hour basis. Under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer and in consultation with the Chief Administrative Officer, the facility provides quality services to the university and local communities.
The section is charged with the responsibility of ensuring proper supervision and management of university's grounds, staff houses, furniture, student hostels, lecture halls, offices, water treatment facilities, sewerage, electrical maintenance, and roads. In consultation with the Chief Administrative Officer, the department ensures quality delivery of these services.
The section oversees the management and maintenance of all university vehicles and ensures provision of transport services to all students on academic trips and staff whenever it is required. It has a well-equipped modern garage that provides mechanical and repair services.
The section oversees the catering services and accommodation to all government sponsored university students pursuing their academic studies. In consultation with the Chief Administrative Officer, the section ensures quality provision of meals and adequate accommodation space to students.
Co-ordinates, and advises on all legal issues relating to university and in consultation with the Chief Administrative Officer, the section undertakes legal actions as need arises in defense of the university.
The university has two farms, one at Main campus and the other at Chepkoilel campus. Chepkoilel Campus farm covers an area of 223 hectares whereas the Main campus Farm is 750 acres. The Farms operate on a commercial basis and also offer training ground for students and staff doing research on related areas. The farms mainly produce maize, wheat, dairy products, and seed wheat and maize to the Kenya Seed Limited.
