MOI UNIVERSITY LEGAL OFFICE

The Moi University Legal Office is a department under the office of the Chief Administrative Officer. Currently, one Legal Officer, one legal Clerk and a legal Secretary man it.

The functions of the office are as follows:-

• Attending to various departments within the University fraternity for purposes of offering legal advice and referrals to the adjunct litigation counsels.
• Drawing and amending of all pleadings, applications and submissions.
• Conducting pre-trial briefings and preparing files for trial.
• Corresponding with litigation counsels
• Conducting legal research and drafting of legal opinions
• Reconciliation of different persons within the university fraternity by using alternative dispute resolution techniques such as mediation and conciliation.
• Facilitation and coordination of open days and legal aid clinics for purposes of offering legal advice to various departmental heads within the University.
• Representing the University in seminars, training's and conferences relating to the university's legal interests.
• Participating in any analysis and critiquing of bills and legislation affecting the University's legal position.
• Proposal writing and report writing under the Auspices of the Chief Administrative Officer and the University Management by extension.
• Ensuring that the legal databases are regularly updated.
• Supporting the Moi University Technology Transfer Office on issues like intellectual property rights, collaborative research agreements etc.
