The research section coordinates all research activities within the University. The activities in the section include: sourcing of research grants, publication of sources of research funds and research findings; it monitors and evaluates progress of research and training staff on writing of research proposals.

The extension and outreach section handles all liaison, extension and outreach activities for the University. These include disseminating research findings to end-users; organizing of seminars, conferences, external liaison, industrial links and international programmes. The section also provides links and collaboration with existing extension and community services.
The Moi University Extension and Outreach Office provides the basis for provision of extension and outreach services to the Kenyan and international communities.
Extension and Outreach Programmes are carried out by departmental or school teams, but the University has established specific centers known as Extension and Outreach Centres that provide specialized extension or outreach programmes. Click here for more information about Extension and Outreach

The Objectives of IGERD are:
- Advocate and promote gender equity through affirmative action.
- Promote development of gender sensitive policies.
- Promote multi-disciplinary research on gender issues at the local, national and regional levels.
- Advocate and promote the education of women and girls.
- Set up academic programs at certificate, diploma and post graduate levels.
- Establish a gender desk on each campus to address students and staff real life issues.
- Advocate policies that promote reproductive health and well being of women and families.
- Create consultancies, collaboration and linkages at the local, national, regional and international levels.
- Institute strategies for sustainability.
