INTRODUCTION
At independence, University education in Kenya was a small sub-sector with about 600 students in total, studying in the only one University College; present day University of Nairobi. Today there are over 50,000 students enrolled in Kenya Universities, six of which are public.
Western University College of Science and Technology (WEUCO), the seventh public University, which opened its gates to the first undergraduate students in September 2002, takes pride in its contribution to national development.
WEUCO strives to play its role in offering quality University Education; a task which is very significant as well as challenging taking into account the ever increasing demand for higher education and the need to produce graduates who can contribute towards creation of wealth and employment.
BACKGROUND
The College was established as Western College of Science and Applied Arts (WECO) in 1972, to provide technical and vocational education, under the management of a Board of Trustees. In 2002 Western University College of Science and Technology (WEUCO) was established as a constituent college of Moi University by a legal notice No. 373 under the Moi University Act (Cap 210A).
LOCATION
The College is located in Kakamega, the provincial capital of Western Province, off Webuye-Kisumu road. Kakamega is about 400 km from Nairobi and borders the only surviving equatorial rain forest in Kenya.

INTERNAL CAPACITY BUILDING
The College is continually enhancing its internal capacity through staff recruitment and development as well as through expansion of physical facilities.
