Objectives of IGERD

  1. Advocate and promote gender equity through affirmative action.
  2. Promote development of gender sensitive policies.
  3. Promote multi-disciplinary research on gender issues at the local, national and regional levels.
  4. Advocate and promote the education of women and girls.
  5. Set up academic programs at certificate, diploma and post graduate levels.
  6. Establish a gender desk on each campus to address students and staff real life issues.
  7. Advocate policies that promote reproductive health and well being of women and families.
  8. Create consultancies, collaboration and linkages at the local, national, regional and international levels.
  9. Institute strategies for sustainability.

To achieve the above objectives, IGERD plans to embark on multi-disciplinary and multi-dimensional approach in each of the following areas:

  • Gender research and extension,
  • Education and training (i.e. certificate and diploma courses) and
  • Consultancies, collaboration and linkages.
