Internationals students from across the Eastern/Central African and overseas countries will enter Kenya (if they have traveled by road) through Namanga, and Malaba. By air, they enter through the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or Mombasa International Airport.
The nearest town to Moi University is Eldoret. Transport by road comprises buses: Akamba Bus, Kenya Bus, and Eldoret Express (KSh.400-500/=). These Bus lines are available to Eldoret Town daily and eventually by "matatus"(KSh70/=) to the University Campus. You will be received by the International Programmes Office, Dean of Students or your respective School members of Staff.
For students from overseas countries such as USA, Europe, Asia, the port of entry is, Nairobi. Transport is the same as indicated above. Do not try to take a taxicab from Nairobi to Eldoret. The cost is prohibitive.
The University owns hostels for their students across all campuses as well as residential facilities for both men and women students. They are designed to meet the needs of present day university students locally and internationally. Rent rates vary from US$34 - 47 per month/semester. You will be allocated a room on arrival as you register for courses.
A student needs approximately US$200 for living expenses. This entails daily upkeep for student for 16-weeks/4 months/semester of each academic year which are September - December and January - April.
A list of required books will be given by the various lecturers in one's discipline. A student may need approximately US$134 per academic year. Books can be obtained from University Bookshops across the campuses.
Fields attachment are there as per one's area of discipline. Fields attachment are usually between May and August of each year while field trips are there during the semester sessions.
International students to Moi University are subject to the visa requirements that govern the two countries. Students are advised to check with Kenya Embassy or Consulate in their respective countries for rules that are in force, since immigration rules may change from time to time. On arrival at the University, an international student is required to fill Application Form for a Pupil's Pass (Form 8). The International Programmes Office will facilitate the procedure of registration for the Student Pass and give any more details to enable you settle down.
