BASELINE SURVEYS:

For effective coverage of the two themes the Department of civil and structural engineering has conducted baseline surveys. For the asphalt theme, the current processes in the design and implementation of asphalt pavements will be documented. This survey will mainly target the Ministry of Roads. For the concrete quality theme it will cover details related to materials, equipment, available skills, tests, processes, specific uses and referenced documents.
The survey reports will be used by the facilitators in preparation of workshop lectures and will also be made available to the participants of the workshop.

CONTENT:

Day 1 - Raise awareness in the sector about consequences of using concrete that does not meet required quality for specific applications;Present practices that lead to good quality concrete.
Day 2 - Explore the applicable standards for the manufacture and use of concrete in Kenya;
Explain the key requirements of Euro codes in design, construction and maintenance of concrete structures.
Day 3 - Present and explain key considerations, design, construction, damage, maintenance and rehabilitation of asphalt pavements.
Day 4 - Field excursion.

Engineers in the discipline of Civil Engineering and other engineering fields with special interest in the above themes.
