I would like to welcome all guests and participants to the Moi University 2nd International Conference. The Chancellor of Moi University Prof. Bethwell A. Ogot, in 2004 strongly recommended that there be the Moi University Annual Conference in accordance with the Research Policy as a forum for intellectual discourse. The conference boasts regional academic performance for the University, whose core business is Learning/Teaching, Research and Outreach/Extension. Further to these recommendations, the Moi University 1st Annual International Conference and Partners' Meeting was held between 14th-17th February 2005 at Hotel Sirikwa with the main theme being: "Innovations and Challenges in Education, Environmental and Natural Resource Management: Communication and Development in the 21st Century."
The Moi University 2nd Annual International Conference is taking place eighteen months after the 1st conference with the Main Theme being "Science and Socio-Economics for Sustainable Development: Opportunities and Challenges in the 21st Century."
The five participating schools in the 2nd Annual International Conference are: School of Arts and Social Sciences, Business and Economics, Medicine and Public Health, and Science.
It is hoped that all the papers that will be presented in this conference will be peer reviewed and subsequently published in Moi University Journals as appropriate. One can however arrange to have the papers on own Compact Disk during the conference in lieu of conference proceedings.
I sincerely thank our guests and participants for taking their time to write papers and for attending this conference in person.
