Moi University's Newly Elected Student Leaders ready to take Oath of Office |
Moi university Vice Chancellor Prof. Isaac S. Kosgey on Tuesday, 19th March, 2019, presided over the swearing-in-ceremony of the newly elected Moi University Student Organization officials. The inauguration ceremony took place at the Student Centre, Main campus.
The oath of office was administered by Moi University Senior Legal Officer Ms. Petrolina Chepkwony in the presence of the Vice Chancellor. The Vice Chancellor was flanked by the D.V.C - Students Affairs, Prof. Nathan Ogechi, the Registrar - Administration, Planning and Development, Dr. Peter Rutto and the Dean of Students, Dr. John Ayieko. Thirty four College Representatives and seven members of Student Council were sworn in.
Speaking during the event, the Vice Chancellor underscored the importance of student leadership within the University and promised to closely work together with the student leaders for the betterment of the University. He urged the new student leaders to uphold integrity, competence and transparency while discharging their mandate in serving the students. The Vice Chancellor exhorted the new leaders to be a force to reckon with in their academics by performing remarkably well.
On his part, the Dean of Students urged the student leadership to exhaust all the channels of communication to amicably solve critical issues pertaining to students.
The seven members of the Student Governing Council are;
- Chairman - Timothy Kemboi
- Vice Chairman - Mwanahamisi Said
- Secretary General – Ian Kipkemboi
- Finance Secretary - Hezbon Ondari
- Academics Secretary - Annette Adhiambo
- Co-Curricular Secretary - Ronny Alex Kimathi
- Special Needs & Social Affairs Secretary – Emmanuel Sarabhai
The swearing ceremony is anchored in the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and gives the elected leaders the legitimacy and mandate to serve in their various capacities. Moi University warmly congratulates the student leaders on their victory in the elections and wishes them all the best in their new term.
