The Senate is the principal academic authority of Moi University, responsible for overseeing academic matters and maintaining educational standards. It is chaired by the Vice-Chancellor and includes key university leadership such as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, principals of constituent colleges, deans, heads of teaching departments, faculty representatives, the university librarian, and student representatives, among others as defined in the University Statutes.
The Senate’s core functions include:
- Approving and monitoring the academic content and standards of all programs.
- Proposing regulations on student admissions, examinations, and academic awards.
- Recommending the awarding of degrees, diplomas, and certificates.
- Initiating academic policy and advising the University Council on academic matters.
- Making regulations on academic issues in line with the University Statutes.
