Masters of Arts in Anthropology


• To qualify for admission into the Master of Arts in Anthropology programme, the applicant MUST fulfil the academic requirements as prescribed by Moi University Senate
• One shall be required to be a holder of a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Anthropology or a related discipline from Moi University or its equivalent from a university recognized by Moi University Senate

Duration of the Programme
The programme shall be by coursework, examination, research and thesis and shall be offered over a period of two (2) academic years distributed into four (4) semesters of full time attendance.

Masters of Arts in Medical Anthropology


• To qualify for admission into the Master of Arts in Anthropology programme, the applicant MUST fulfill the academic requirements as prescribed by Moi University Senate
• One shall be required to be a holder of a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Anthropology or a related discipline from Moi University or its equivalent from a university recognized by Moi University Senate

Duration of the Programme
The programme shall be by coursework, examination, research and thesis and shall be offered over a period of two (2) academic years distributed into four (4) semesters of full time attendance.

Masters of Arts in Geography

Eligibility to the Programme
The programme is open to students who satisfy the Moi University Postgraduate Studies requirements for a Master’s degree. In addition to these general requirements (i.e. a first class or upper second-class honours degree from a university recognized by Moi University Senate) candidates to the programme must have taken Geography at undergraduate level.

Duration
The programme extends over a period of two (2) years for full-time students. Part-time attendance can be arranged in compliance with the guidelines of Moi University’s postgraduate studies in which case it shall run for a period of four (4) years. The programme is divided into four semesters for full-time attendance: the first two semesters are devoted to coursework and research methodology; the third semester is devoted to research work: students are expected to collect and analyze their data and write the first draft of their thesis; in the fourth semester MA in Geography candidates do more coursework while finishing the wring of their thesis.

Masters of Arts (Linguistics)


The programme is open to students with at least an upper second-class honors degree from Moi University or a university
recognized by the Moi University Senate. In addition, candidates to the programme must have taken English and /or linguistics at undergraduate level. Applicants with a lower second class honours and three years of field experience may also be considered.

 

Duration of the Programme
The programme extends over a period of two academic years for full-time students and is divided into four semesters as follows:
• First semester: course work and research seminars
• Second semester: course work and proposal writing
• Third semester: data collection and analysis; first draft of thesis
• Fourth semester: course work and completion of thesis writing

Masters of Arts (French)


Second-class honors degree from Moi University or a university
recognized by the Moi University Senate. In addition, candidates to the programme must have taken French studies, at undergraduate level. Applicants with a lower second class honours and three years of field experience may also be considered.

Duration
The programme extends over a period of two academic years for full-time students and is divided into four semesters as follows:
• First semester: course work and research seminars
• Second semester: course work and proposal writing
• Third semester: data collection and analysis; first draft of thesis
• Fourth semester: course work and completion of thesis writing

Masters of Arts in Linguistics, Media and Communication

The programme is open to students with at least an upper second-class honors degree from Moi University or a university recognized by the Moi University Senate. In addition, candidates to the programme must have taken Linguistics, Media and Communication, or relevant communication studies at undergraduate level. Applicants with a lower second class honours and relevant field experience may also be considered.

Duration
The programme extends over a period of two academic years for full-time students and is divided into four semesters as follows:
• First semester: course work and research seminars
• Second semester: course work and proposal writing
• Third semester: data collection and analysis; first draft of thesis
• Fourth semester: course work and completion of thesis writing

Masters of Arts (Film & Media Studies)


Applicants must have a Bachelors degree in Literature, Theatre or Film or the equivalent:- first class; second class (honours)
or Lower Second class with working experience in the relevant field.

Duration
The Masters program shall normally take four semesters of sixteen weeks each (two academic years). Semester one and
two are devoted to coursework and research methodology, semester three to field and library research ,analysis of data
and drafting of the thesis, in semester four students complete coursework as they finish the final draft thesis. The dissertation
must be submitted to the department at least a month before the end of the program.

Masters of Arts (Literature)

Masters of Arts (International Relations)



School of Arts and Social Sciences Candidates must comply with the minimum requirements for admission into an MA programmes stipulated by Moi University.
In particular applicants must possess at least Second Class Honours (Lower Division) with an emphasis on the following fields:
• Political Science
• International Relations
• Public Administration
• Public Policy
• Force Migration
or related discipline. And should have experience in the relevant field for a minimum of two years.

Masters of Arts (Public Administration & Public Policy)



To qualify for admission into the MPA (Executive) programme, applicants shall be holders of a Bachelor of Arts degree Second Class Honours, Lower Division from Moi University or those institutions recognized by Moi university senate in the following areas;
• Political Science,
• International Relations
• Public Administration
• Public Policy
• Force Migration
• or related discipline
• And should have experience in the relevant field for a minimum of two years.

Duration of the Programme
The programme shall be offered by Course work, Examination and Research Project and will be undertaken in one calendar
year distributed into three semesters. The third semester is for finalizing the Research Project.

Masters of Arts (History)



Candidates must comply with the minimum requirements for admission into an MA program as stipulated by Moi University. In particular, applicants must:
i. Possess a first class or Second Class Honours (upper division) with an emphasis on History as a major subject.
ii. Be holders of a Second Class Honours (Lower Division) degree.

Masters of Arts (Forced Migration)


Candidates must comply with the minimum requirements for admission into an MA programme as stipulated by Moi University.
In particular applicants must possess at least Second Class Honours (Lower Division) with an emphasis on the following fields:
• Political Science
• International Relations
• Public Administration
• Public Policy
• Force Migration
• or related discipline
• And should have experience in the relevant field for a minimum of two years.

Masters of Arts (Sociology)


The common regulations for the Master’s degree in all faculties and schools of Moi University shall apply.
The candidates for the Master of Arts Degree Programme in Sociology must have Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology or related discipline with at least a Second Class honours, upper division from Moi University or a recognized university or institution of higher learning.

Course Structure and Duration
The Master of Arts Degree Programme in Sociology consists of coursework, examination and thesis and shall normally extend
over a period of two years distributed into four semesters of full time attendance. The Master of Arts Degree Programme consists of a minimum of 31 units of coursework distributed as follows:
i) Two core, one School based course, one elective course and a Research Seminar in the First Semester.
ii) Two core, two elective courses and Research Proposal in the Second Semester.
iii) At least one elective course in the Fourth Semester.
In the second year of study, candidates will be required to carry out field research and write a thesis. In addition, they
will take at least one elective course as stated in 2 (iii) above.
This will be followed by an oral examination upon submission of the M.A. thesis. The thesis will earn a candidate 6 units.
The topic of the thesis shall be chosen from any area of the candidates preferred specialization in consultation with the supervisor/advisor with the approval of the department upon presentation.

Masters of Science (Counseling Psychology)


The admission requirements for this programme shall be:
An upper second class Hons degree in counseling psychology, psychology, guidance and counseling or any other relevant degree
Those with lower second class Hons will in addition be required to have two years’ experience in a relevant field or the lower second class Hons degree plus a post graduate diploma in counseling or psychology.

Course Duration
The duration of the course shall be two years or a total of four semesters.

Master of Science in Development studies


(i) At least Bachelor Degree Second Class Honours Lower Division from Moi University or institutions recognized by Moi University Senate
(ii) Holders of Bachelor Degree in Development studies, Development Economics, Sociology, or related discipline from a recognized university

Masters of Arts (Religion)


Admission Requirements
The following shall be eligible for registration:
1. A holder of a First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) honours degree of Moi University. A holder of Second Class (Lower Division with TWO years field experience in the relevant area.
2. A candidate who has obtained a first degree from an accredited University and recognized by Moi University Senate as equivalent to a first class or second class (upper division) honours degree of Moi University.

Duration
Two academic years of two semesters each.

Masters of Arts (Philosophy)


Admission Requirements
The programme is open to students who satisfy the requirements for School of Arts and Social Sciences M.A. Degree programmes. Candidates must have B.A. or its equivalent in Philosophy with Second Class Upper but those with Second Class Lower with work experience of 2 to 3 years will be acceptable. In addition to the general requirements, candidates with B.A. degree in a relevant field may also apply.

Duration of Programme
The M.A. Programme in Philosophy shall normally take two academic years of two semesters each.

Masters of Arts in Kiswahili


Admission Requirements
A candidate for this program shall have a first degree preferably First Class or Second Class Upper (Honours) degree in Bachelor of Arts or in any other related discipline. A holder of bachelor’s degree with second class lower (Honours) degree with relevant working experience in the area of public or/and private sectors shall be considered eligible.

Course Duration
Consists of coursework, examination and thesis; and shall normally extend to a period of two years for full time students. For part students, the program shall normally take a minimum of four years

Masters of Arts in Gender Studies & Development


A candidate for this program shall have a first degree preferably First Class or Second Class Upper (Honours) degree in Bachelor of Arts or in any other related discipline. A holder of bachelor’s degree with second class lower (Honours) degree with relevant working experience in the area of public or/and private sectors shall be considered eligible.

Course Duration
The Master of Arts program in Gender Studies and Development (GSD) consists of course work, examination and Thesis, and shall normally extend to a period of two years for full time students. For Part time Students, the program shall normally take a minimum of four years.

Master of Public Administration (Executive)


Holders Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, International Relations, Public Administration or related discipline with a least Second Class Honours (Lower Division) from Moi University or institutions recognized by Moi University Senate.
In addition, they should have at least two years practical experience in Public Administration and other related occupations.
Holders of a pass degree with Postgraduate Diploma or five years of work experience may be considered.

Duration – 1 year

Master of Arts in Statecraft and Devolution (Executive)


Holders of Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, International Relations, Public Administration, or related discipline with at least Second Class Honors (Lower Division) from Moi University or institutions recognized by Moi University Senate.
In addition, the applicants should have at least two years practical experience in public administration or related occupation

Master of Science in Library & Information Studies


(i) Holders of BSc. in Information Sciences or any related discipline with at least 2nd Class honours lower division from Moi University or a University or institution of higher learning recognized by Moi University Senate. OR
(ii) Applicants with second class honours degree lower division in an Information related field must have 2 years working experience


Master of Science in Publishing


(i) Holders of BSc. in Information Sciences or any related discipline with at least 2nd Class honours lower division from Moi University or a University or institution of higher learning recognized by Moi University Senate. OR
(ii) Applicants with second class honours degree lower division in an Information related field must have 2 years working experience

 

Master of Science in Records and Archives Management


(i) Holders of BSc. in Information Sciences or any related discipline with at least 2nd Class honours lower division from Moi University or a University or institution of higher learning recognized by Moi University Senate. OR
(ii) Applicants with second class honours degree lower division in an Information related field must have 2 years working experience

 

Master of Science in Journalism & Mass Media


(i) Holders of BSc. in Information Sciences or any related discipline with at least 2nd Class honours lower division from Moi University or a University or institution of higher learning recognized by Moi University Senate. OR

(i) Applicants should hold at least Undergraduate degree with second class honours upper division in any relevant degree

Masters of Hospitality Management


(i) Be a holder of Bachelors degree of Moi University in any of the following disciplines: Hotel and Hospitality Management, Tourism Management, Business Management and Humanities of allied disciplines OR
(ii) Be a holder of Bachelors degree of any other university recognised by Moi University Senate and Commission for University Education as equivalent to status of qualifications in i) above OR
(iii) Be a holder of any other qualifications considered by Moi University Senate and CUE as equivalent to Bachelor’s degree in the disciplines outlined in i) above

Master of Science in Travel and Transport Services Management (MTT)


(i) A holder of a degree in travel, tourism, business or commerce from a University recognized by Moi University Senate with first class or second upper class honors; or
(ii) A holder of a degree in travel, tourism, business or commerce from a University recognized by Moi University Senate with second class lower honors and two (2) years working experience; or
(iii) A holder of a degree in any social science discipline from a University recognized by Moi University Senate with at least second class lower honors with a Diploma in travel, tourism, business studies validated by Moi University Senate; or
(iv) A holder of a degree in any discipline from a University recognized by Moi University Senate with at least second class lower honors with three (3) years working experience in the transport sector.

Master of Tourism Management (MTM)


(i) Be a holder of at least second class Bachelors degree of Moi University in any of the following disciplines: Tourism Management, Hotel and Hospitality Management, Travel and Tour Operations Management, Wildlife Management, Business Management, Geography, economics and Humanities of allied disciplines.
(ii) Be a holder of a first degree from an accredited university and recognized by Moi University Senate as equivalent to status of the qualification in 1.7.1 above.
(iii) Any other qualification that may be defined by Senate from time to time.

Master of Science in Environmental Biology


Upper Second Honours degree and above in a relevant discipline from an institution recognized by Moi University Senate. OR

Applicants with Bachelors degree in relevant field (second class honours lower division) must have at least two(2) years working experience.

Master of Science in Plant Pathology


Upper Second Honours degree and above in a relevant discipline from an institution recognized by Moi University Senate. OR

Applicants with Bachelors degree in relevant field (second class honours lower division) must have at least two(2) years working experience.

Upper Second Honours degree and above in a relevant discipline from an institution recognized by Moi University Senate. OR

b) A candidate should normally have a 1st class or upper second class honors degree in Biochemistry or Molecular Biology from Moi University or any other recognized University.
c) Candidates with Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery or Bachelor of Pharmacy, Bachelor of Dentistry or any other degree in biomedical sciences with at least a credit in Biochemistry or Molecular Biology will be considered.

Minimum University entrance requirements:

Relevant academic bachelor’s degree holders:
(i) Upper Second – Class Honors or a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.00 on a scale of 4.00
(ii) Lower Second-Class Honors or a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.50 on a scale of 4.00 with additional relevant training, evidence of research capability either through research, paper presentations or peer reviewed publications and relevant working experience.
(iii) Relevant postgraduate diploma.

 


Master of Science in Field Epidemiology


(2-year full time in service programme)

Minimum University entrance requirements

The relevant sections of Moi University Postgraduate rules and regulations for one to be eligible to register for the Master’s degree shall apply as follows (section 11.1):

(i) Holders of at least a Second-Class Bachelor’s degree
(ii) Holders of a first degree from an accredited University and recognized by Moi University Senate as equivalent to (a) above.
(iii) Holders of a first degree with a ‘PASS’ shall normally be admitted if they have a postgraduate diploma in the relevant field.
(iv) In addition to producing evidence of eligibility for registration, candidates for the Master’s degree shall normally be required to appear for an interview by the various Schools to determine their suitability for registration. A written test might also be given at the discretion of the Department.
(v) Subject to the approval of Senate , Department, through their respective School Committees, and with the recommendations of Board of School of Postgraduate Studies Research and Innovation (BSPGSRI), may formulate regulations requiring applicants to have attained certain academic or equivalent qualifications, which are consistent with the goals of their Masters programme.

Master of Science (Health Informatics)

Minimum University entrance requirements:
a) Relevant academic bachelor’s degree holders:
• Upper Second Class honors or a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.00 on a scale of 4.00
• Lower second class honors or a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.50 on scale of 4.00 with additional relevant training, evidence of research capability either through research, paper presentation or peer reviewed publications and relevant working experience.
b) Relevant postgraduate diploma

Master of Science in Infectious Disease and Global Health


This is a multidisciplinary degree programme that requires a broad-based undergraduate degree programme, subject to approval by the senate, the Department of Epidemiology and Medical Statistics may formulate additional requirement that applicants are required to have as may be consistent with the goals of the Master’s programme. Candidates may be invited for interview to assess their suitability for admission.

The following shall be eligible to register for this Master’s degree.
a) Holders of at least second-class Bachelor’s degree
b) Holders of a first degree from an accredited University and recognized by Moi University Senate as equivalent to (i) above.
c) Holders of a first degree with a ‘PASS’ shall normally be admitted if they have a postgraduate diploma in the relevant field or minimum 2 years work experience.
d) In addition to producing evidence of eligibility for registration, candidates for the Master’s degree shall normally be required to appear for an interview by the School so as to determine their suitability for registration. A written test might also be given, at the discretion of the Department.
e) Subject to the approval of Senate, the host department, through their respective School Committees, and with the recommendations of Board School of Postgraduate Studies Research and Innovation (BSPGSR&I), may formulate regulations requiring applicants to have attained certain academic or equivalent qualifications, which are consistent with the goals of their Masters Programme.

 

Master of Science in Midwifery


(i) Be a holder of BSc. Nursing or Midwifery degree or its equivalent from a University recognized by Moi University senate.
(ii) Should have at least one (1) year of relevant experience after internship.
(iii) Be registered or eligible for registration as a nurse /midwife by the nursing and midwifery council of Kenya.
