Africa Center of Excellence II in Phytochemicals, Textile and Renewal Energy (ACEII PTRE)
This achievement would require an increase in highly skilled personnel in the area of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) to facilitate manufacture of skill-intensive products of high value and quality. However, inadequacy in personnel with advanced training in textiles, phytochemicals and renewable energy fields has been confirmed. Furthermore, it is identified in the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation 2014-2018 Strategic Plan as being one of the contributing factors hindering fast industrialization of Kenya. This scenario is not unique to Kenya, but it is a regional trend with similar shortage in skilled manpower reported in all Eastern and Southern Africa countries.
