Moi University is a Public University located in Eldoret, Kenya. The University offers training both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. After a successful application for the VLIR-UOS TEAM projects, the University is coordinating the TEAM 2019 project on “Determining nematode damage and mitigation for increased finger millet productivity for food and nutritional security in Kenya”. This project aims to:
- study nematode damage in finger millet;
- study possible intervention measures;
- review the MSc. Plant Pathology programme to address emerging diseases,
- renovate and equip laboratories;
- train local personnel and students in nematology and
- disseminate project generated information and technology.
As part of the students training, Moi University in partnership with Ghent University is offering five postgraduate scholarships for Masters (MSc.) in Plant Pathology. These scholarships are open to Kenyan nationals on a competitive basis and will be awarded for a maximum of two years (24 months). The scholarship will cover tuition, research and living expenses.
Eligibility
The applicant must be:
- A holder of at least second class Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences or related areas;
- A holder of a first degree from an accredited university and recognized by Moi University Senate as equivalent to (i) above;
- In addition to producing evidence of eligibility for registration, candidates for this MSc. Plant Pathology degree may be required to appear for an interview (either virtual or face-to-face) before the School of Sciences and Aerospace studies (SSAS) to determine their suitability for registration.
- Willing to be a full time student
Duration and commencement
This scholarship is conditional and tenable for two (2) consecutive years and is not transferable to any other institution or dependant. It must be taken at time of offer as deferments and temporary withdrawal from studies while on scholarship will not be allowed (in case of pregnancy, female candidates may be granted maternity leave). The applications are open only to applicants for the 2020/2021 academic year commencing on April 2021.

Eligible interested candidates can apply by filling the scholarship application form (TEAM 2019 Scholarship application form) and post-graduate application form (Graduate application form). The applicants should request their referees to fill the referee forms (Referee recommendation form) and send them to the address indicated below.
