Call for Applications 2022–2023 Visiting Research Fellowships (Moi University African Cluster Centre (Moi–ACC) )

The Moi University African Cluster Centre (Moi–ACC) is offering 4 residential research fellowships between April 2022 and March 2023. The fellowships will be tenable at Moi University, Eldoret, Kenya. In the event of a continuation of the Covid–19 pandemic, the fellowship residency can also be in any of the other centers of the Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence – University of Bayreuth, Germany; Université Joseph Ki–Zerbo, Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso; University of Lagos, Lagos, Nigeria; and Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa.


The fellowships will range from 3 to 6 months and will be awarded to scholars from diverse academic disciplines in the social sciences and humanities who wish to pursue projects that are significant to the theoretical and thematic agendas of the Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence. Scholars who engage, or are ready to engage, in inter–, multi– and trans–disciplinary work are particularly encouraged to apply.

The exact duration of each fellowship will be determined based on the suggestion and availability of the successful applicant. The fellowships will include an air ticket (return, economy class) and a monthly stipend of 1,000 euros with which to take care of accommodation and subsistence costs. The fellows will be given office space and access to the Moi University library.

Once in the program, the fellows will be required to give a seminar in the Moi–ACC Africa Colloquium towards the end of their residency and to submit during or after the fellowship at least one publication on the fellowship project, if appropriate in a publication organ of the Cluster of Excellence. In addition, the fellows will be expected to participate in regular university academic events, like seminars and workshops, while in residence. The fellows will be encouraged to seek out (a) collaborating researcher(s) based in the Moi–ACC

To apply, one must:
 Be affiliated to the University of Bayreuth or to an African academic institution, preferably an African Cluster Centre (ACC) of the Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence or other collaborating partners of the Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence
 Have an earned research PhD degree;

 Have a proven track record in the study of Africa;
 Be actively pursuing an academic/research career; and


 Be, in accordance with visa regulations, ready to return to their country of origin and/or residence upon completion of the fellowship.
