Moi University Vice-Chancellor attends ACEII Technical Advisory Meeting in Uganda


Moi University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Isaac Sanga Kosgey joined the institution’s Africa Centre of Excellence in Phytochemicals, Textile and Renewable Energy (ACEII PTRE) leadership at the Technical and Advisory Meeting (TAM) for leaders of Africa Centres of Excellence in Entebbe, Uganda from 22nd May to 24th May, 2023.

Other staff from Moi University who attended the meeting included Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academics, Research, Extension and Students Affairs Prof. Isaac Kimengi, ACEII PTRE Centre Leader Sir. Prof. Ambrose Kiprop, ACEII PTRE Deputy Centre Leader and Dean School of Sciences and Aerospace Studies Dr. Rose Ramkat, among others.
Also in attendance was Mr. Paul Mungai, the Coordinator for the Kenya Africa Centers of Excellence and also a member to National Steering Committee.
The Technical and Advisory Meetings of the ACE II Project are organized to provide the opportunity for ACEs, IUCEA, the World Bank and other stakeholders to reflect on the progress of the project and provide technical support through the presentation of topical issues relevant to the project.
The meeting also reflected on the question of why most countries in Africa have made slow progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In this, the critical roles of research and innovation from the Centers of Excellence were presented and discussed.
The meeting also reflected on the sustainability of the project, commercialization of research outputs, implementation of environmental and social safeguards and verification of Performance Based Conditions.
The meeting ended with an agreement on the best practices for the improvement of the project performance.
Participants of TAM include Members of the Regional Steering Committee, ACE II Center Leaders, ACE II Deputy Center Leaders, IUCEA/RFU staff, World Bank technical team and independent verification team.
