Moi University has entered into partnership with Webuye Sub County Hospital in setting up an Academic Research Laboratory at the Webuye based facility. The laboratory, funded by Duke University at a tune of 10 million, was launched by the Bungoma County Governor, Wycliffe Wangamation Thursday 24January, 2019.The laboratory will serve as a training and Resource Center for students from the School of Medicine and Public Health.
Standing in for the Vice - Chancellor, the Deputy Vice - Chancellor (Students Affairs), Prof. Nathan Ogechi was enthusiastic that the ongoing collaboration between the Institutions will move from strength to strength for the benefit of Bungoma County and the entire country. He averred that” the laboratory will offer external quality assurance program which will have a significant impact on diagnostic accuracy within the county hospital laboratory and other labs”. Prof. Ogechi added that Moi University was in support of President Uhuru Kenyatta ‘Big Four’ Agenda and was realigning its activities to make Universal Health Care vision a reality.
Speaking during the launch, the area Governor promised to disburse funds to the facility and called for accountability of each coin spent. “We are going to ensure that all our hospitals are well equipped and supplied. But as we do that, we must ensure there is accountability on the drugs disbursed to the hospitals. He added that there must for value for money spent and called for the effective utilization of funds for the good of Bungoma residents.
The Bungoma Health Executive Officer, Patrick Wandili said the county administration was cognizant of the financial bottlenecks at the facility and promised to get a panacea in due time.
