Ms. Julie Briand Robion, Linguistic Attaché, Embassy of France in Kenya visits Moi University

Moi University received Ms. Julie Briand Robion, Linguistic Attaché from the Embassy of France in Kenya, on Tuesday January 29, 2019, at the Main Campus. Ms. Julie was received by Dr. Peter Rutto, Registrar (Administration, Planning and Development) who was standing in for the Vice – Chancellor. During the Courtesy call Dr. Rutto welcomed Ms. Julie and gave an overview of the University including the programmes offers, Schools, Departments, Campuses and the Teaching Faculty.  Dr. Rutto acknowledged the protracted relationship the University has had with the French Government. It is interesting to note that Moi University offers French in a multi - disciplinary fields. “Moi University is a unique institution that offers French language as an elective to School of Engineering students” remarked Ms. Julie. Exploring ways the University and the French Government can benefit, Ms. Julie mentioned the Language Assistant program. This program is designed to give Kenyan students the opportunity to discover a new region and culture by working alongside an English teacher in a French school environment. “It is a fantastic opportunity to gain seven months of international professional experience” added Ms. Julie. The program will also offer opportunities for students from France to come to Kenya and experience the cultural diversity the Country has to offer while the students are French Language Assistants. She further stated that the University was at a strategic location to be set up as a Centre of Training secondary and primary school teachers pursuing French. The program will benefit students from the Schools of Arts & Social Sciences, Engineering, Education and Tourism, Hospitality & Events Management.

Present during the discussions was Prof. Simuyu Sitati, Dean - School of Engineering, Prof. John Chang’ach,  Dean - School of Education, Dr. Emmanuel Satia Rep. Dean - School of Arts & Social Sciences, Dr. Lazarus Okioma, Associate Dean - School of Arts & Social Sciences and Mr. Sammy Kottut, Deputy Registrar - Students Affairs.
