The office of the Vice-Chancellor today hosted the French Ambassador to Kenya, H.E Mrs. Aline Kustermenager at Moi University, Main Campus. The Ambassador visit to Moi University was precipitated by the President of French Republic, H.E Emmanuel Macron, call to reinforce the existing collaborations and agreements on economic and higher education fronts when he lastly visited Kenya.
The Ambassador was received on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Student Affairs, Prof Nathan Ogechi flanked by Directors, Deans, Heads of Departments, French Lecturers, French students and beneficiaries of French Scholarship from Moi University.10 out of 70 beneficiaries in Kenyan Universities have benefited from French Scholarship.
Speaking during the event, H.E. Aline Menager said that “Higher education and vocational training was the key to Collaboration between Moi University and France” and called on the university to provide a favorable environment that would abet inception of new areas of collaboration. She underscored the need to increase movement of skills between students and researchers saying that would only be actualized through partnerships.” Enhancing movement of skills and talents between teachers and students from Moi University and France is the key to the future”. She said
Speaking on the behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ogechi said that Moi University had received an avalanche of support from French Republic ranging from capacity building to equipping of labs, donations of books and research grants. He said that the University had kept in place stringent measures to ensure prudent management of research funds received from the donors to realize the objectives of the funded projects.
The University values the French language and as such, a number of schools offer French courses in a number of programs. Some of the schools that offer French language and have benefited from the French are School of Arts and Social Sciences, School of Engineering, School of Biological and Physical Sciences and School of Tourism, Hospitality and Events Management.
