Background Information
UNESCO Chair on Enterprise Management & Sustainability at Moi University Kenya was established in December 2019. Moi University is proud to have been selected to be the UNESCO Chair in this field which involves building capacities among the business community and farmers for enterprise creation, effective management and sustainability. The objectives of the chair will be to contribute towards establishment of enterprises that can meet the needs of present and future generations of customers and stakeholders through innovative creation of new businesses while enhancing environmental protection for sustainable economic development. The Chair will also carry out surveys and research on frameworks for sustainable enterprise management, sustainable enterprise creation and generate information to key stakeholders including the chamber of commerce, NGOs and the private sector for enhancing sustainable entrepreneurship. The Chair will work in collaboration with Indiana University USA, Ivey School of Business, Western University, Canada, Makerere University Business School, Uganda, and UniTwin UNESCO Chairs in Kenya, KNATCOM and UNESCO.
UNESCO is the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization established in 1946. It seeks to build peace through international cooperation in Education, the Sciences and Culture. UNESCO's programmes contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals defined in Agenda 2030, adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2015. The Kenya National Commission for UNESCO (KNATCOM) is State Corporation in the Ministry of Education established to promote Kenya’s national interests in UNESCO and UNESCO’s international interests in Kenya, Regionally and Globally.
The goal of the Chair is to build capacities in the university surrounding community on enterprise management and sustainability focusing on:-
